Welcome to Oak Class Year 6. What an exciting year this year will be as you begin the journey into your final year at primary school. Year 6 will be such a fantastic year full of adventures, creating memories and achieving lots of special things.
This first half term, we will be focusing on some inspirational texts and topics. In English and geography, we are going to focus on the theme of 'Journeys' looking at a wide of texts and information about the journeys lots of people make, refugees, where people make journeys from and to and how it would feel to be forced to leave the place where you belong and make an unwanted and dangerous journey. This is a very emotive topic but one that you will love.
In science, we will begin by focusing on 'Evolution and Inheritance' and think about how different species have evolved and adapted throughout the years and reasons for this. We will become scientists and archaeologists to travel back in time to see what animals existed thousands and millions of years ago and which animals have survived in the survival of the fittest and look at fossils to helps us. Your first RE unit also links to our science as you will be looking at 'Science vs the Creation Story'. In this unit, you will focus on the different opinions of scientists and religious people who have differing views about how the world and people in it were created.
As you can see from the above information, the learning taking place in Oak is very exciting and I know you will all learn lots and produce some wonderful work along the way, whilst having fun doing all of this.
'Every day is a chance to learn!'
