Department for Sport, Media and Culture

Our Ministers for the Department of Sport, Media and Culture

On 14th November 2024, the Department for Sports, Media and Culture had their first meeting with other members of the Forward as One Pupil Advisory Board.  This meeting took place via zoom.  In the meeting, the children discussed the meaning of the words Sport (exercise, teams, competition, fitness), Media (television, radio, newspapers, the internet) and Culture (music, theatre, reading, museums, art).

We discussed that members of the board would be learning more about Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) which states that children have the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

The children have shared this right (Article 31) with the school during an assembly and have completed a questionnaire to find out the pupils' thoughts on how this right is met at All Saints'.  The pupils have also been invited to create posters or presentations sharing how they believe that staff at All Saints' meet this right for the children.

During the Spring term, the Ministers for the Department of Sports, Media and Culture thought about how they could focus further on article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) says that children have the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

The ministers decided they wanted to pay particular attention to the part of the article which states, 'take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities'.

As a school, all children regularly take part in Art, Design and Technology and Music lessons but the ministers wished to look at this section and give it a competitive twist.  They stated, "we have sports competitions such as sports' day and interhouse and inter school competitions, so why not other competitions".  After our meetings, it was decided that during the summer term, we will hold an interhouse singing competition and an art competition.  The ministers also worked alongside the Ministers on The Department for Education to come up with the idea of 'All Saints' has Talent' (see sub page for Education Ministers).

Another suggestion made by the Ministers for Sports, Media and Culture was that, as a school, we should/could learn more about different countries.  Each class will decide upon a country to learn about and will then share this information with their peers during Key Stage worship time.
