Acorn Early Years 2022 - 2023

Hello and welcome to your Early Years class page. Early Years is called Acorn class.

Miss Fishwick is the Early Years Lead and one of the class teachers within the Early Years department.

Miss Duckworth is a class teacher within the Early Years department.

Miss Fallon is the teaching assistant within the Early Years department.

Mrs Williams teaches RE and Music within the Early Years department.

Mr Preston teaches forest schools within the Early Years department.

In Autumn 1, our first topic was 'superheroes'. We read lots of books relating to ourselves, our bodies, how to stay healthy and about superheroes. Our key texts were 'Supertato' and 'Superworm'.

Last half term our topic was, 'Colours of the Rainbow.' Our focus texts were 'Elmer' and 'The Rainbow Fish.' We specifically focused on comparing different places around the world with where we live. We also looked at the importance of being special and unique.

This half term, our new topic is 'A Journey to...'. First, we are going on a journey to space. We are focusing on texts such as 'Whatever Next!' and 'Aliens Love Underpants'. We are then going on a journey to a desert island. Here we will be learning about pirates. We will be looking at texts such as 'The Pirates Next door'. We will focus on different vehicles and transport in this topic too, looking at how they have changed over time.

In Numeracy, our focus this half term will be numbers 0-10. We will be following the Power Maths scheme of work when teaching Maths in Early Years.

For phonics, reading and writing sessions, we will be following the Read Write Inc programme.

We cannot wait for another very exciting and fun half term.
