Home Learning - Reception

In Reception homework expectations are as follows:

  • Read daily with your child, recording at least 5 times to report what reading has taken place.  This can be you reading to your child, your child reading to you or talking about a book they have read.
  • Watching any phonics videos that are sent home via class dojo.  These links can also be found in the reading section of our class page.
  • Work with your child to complete any home learning challenges set on Class Dojo, sharing evidence of these these by sending pictures or videos as requested by the class teacher when complete.

Phonics Videos
Fred Games - Fred the Frog says the sounds and we say the words.
Use these videos to support your children with oral blending - the skill of putting sounds together to say words.  This is the first step to reading.
Sound videos - each of these videos teaches a sound, shows images of items beginning with the sound, models how to handwrite the sound and orally blends words with the sound in.  These videos are taught daily in school in the order as shown.  Rewatching and regularly watching these videos will be beneficial in supporting your child on their reading journey.
Set 1 single sounds
