At All Saints' we believe reading is extremely important! We use a wide range of reading materials to support the development of reading and to encourage a love for books. Over the past 12 months we have updated our reading materials. Whilst a wide range of materials are used to support both home reading and guided reading, recently school have purchased a number of texts from the Read, Write, Inc reading scheme for our EYFS children, the Project X reading scheme and from Oxford Reading Tree for children from year 1 onwards. We also have 'Bug Club' available as an online interactive enhancement to our reading development. All parents are directed to Oxford Owl as an online reading support resource.
We buy First News newspapers that our KS2 children may chose as home reading material, and also make use of these reading materials within guided reading.
Over the past 12 months we have undertaken a considerable amount of work developing reading within school, working alongisde a fantastic teaching and learning consultant from Lancashire. Every child has their own reading journal and reading activities start every day at All Saints' throughout our school, with a wide range of text types and reading activities being used to develop a love of reading and confident readers!
We are currently taking part in the 1,000,000 minute reading challenge as a school and have pledged to work to become a Reading School, taking part in the Lancashire 'We are Reading' initiative.
